Song Premiere | Goalpost, ‘Sour Wine’

Coming in from Detroit’s little sister city, Toledo, Ohio, Goalpost creates a unique sound built on a foundation of Lake Erie mud and post-industrial waste.

Beginning in the summer of 2024, songwriter and guitarist Matt Cashin (formerly of January Man), along with drummer and home recording enthusiast Daniel Price (Equipment, Good Personalities), quickly created a local supergroup. The intimate and nostalgic sound these two curated together would surface with their first single, “Green,” only two weeks after formation.

Later, lead guitarist Ethan Fahle helped fill the empty space the two were previously missing. Goalpost followed with its second single, “Paint,” and debuted both singles at its first-ever show, opening for Teethe. After cutting their own teeth playing more local shows and writing through the winter of 2024, bassist Alexandria Price joined the trio to round out the low-end they needed to become a massive-sounding live band.

Goalpost’s debut album, Flower of Intention, was self-released on June 13, 2025, and is an introspective study on the struggles of human connection and intimacy set to the backdrop of a slowcore, shoegaze, and post-punk landscape. Goalpost found their sound and a following in multiple cities during the year, establishing themselves as one of the most exciting and loud up-and-coming bands from Ohio in a short amount of time. 2026 is proving already to be a fruitful year for the band as they work on their second album, which is due to be released in the summer, leading with a new single for Setterwind Records, “Sour Wine,” on March 20.
