Slowdive Release “skin in the game”

Slowdive present their new song, “skin in the game,” from their forthcoming album, everything is alive, out September 1st on Dead Oceans. Following lead single “kisses,” “skin in the game” is smudged and forlorn, with Neil Halstead’s vocals radiantly emerging from the haze. “I won’t know and you won’t say it now,” he sings, “Cos you don’t say and I will never ask.” Produced by Halstead, everything is alive finds Slowdive — Halstead, vocalist and guitarist Rachel Goswell, guitarist Christian Savill, bassist Nick Chaplin, and drummer Simon Scott — locating even more contours of their immersive, elemental sound.

This fall, Slowdive will embark on a North American, UK, and Ireland tour. The North American leg of Slowdive’s tour is nearly sold out, with tickets remaining in Salt Lake City and St. Paul, and a newly added second show in San Francisco.

everything is alive contains the duality of Slowdive’s familiar internal language mixed with the exaltation of new beginnings. Six years after their monumental return and self-titled album, Slowdive’s fifth album began with Halstead originally conceiving it as a “more minimal electronic record.” The group collectively gravitated back toward their signature reverb-drenched guitars, however, that first concept seeped into the final compositions. “As a band, when we’re all happy with it, that tends to be the stronger material. We’ve always come from slightly different directions, and the best bits are where we all meet in the middle,” Halstead says.
