Most of us are pretty fortunate to still have a handful of friends that we have known for most of our lives. Having known each other since the high school days, Stockholm’s own Shout Out Louds have been fortunate in keeping the good old days alive and well after so many years.
“Porcelain,” the third single from their forthcoming album Ease My Mind, offers up a memory from one of the many that the band has archived within the fifteen years being together. Here’s what the band had to say regarding the lyrics to “Porcelain”:
“Porcelain” isn’t about the types of relationships that rest on a steady foundation, but the ones that lack stability—an absent parent, a complicated friendship, a brief love affair, times of self-doubt and self-hatred. The person we refer to as “Kim” in the song is an actual person who let us all housesit for her on our first, short stint in the US. Her dad is pretty famous, and her home felt like some kind of a monument over a neglected child. It was full of dirty baby tees, glitter barrettes, pets, and impersonal gifts from the SkyMall catalog. We projected all kinds of feelings and romantic, tragic imagery onto her. She became a key figure in our collective memory.
