Co-written and produced with Jungle, London-based musician Poppy Ajudha shares “NO!,” her first new music since the release of her debut album The Power In Us in April. Known for using her art and platform to initiate conversations and commentary on the defining issues of her generation, ‘NO!’ sees Poppy continue this intention. Defiant and propulsive, “NO!” rallies around the essential message of cherishing our autonomy and boundaries in a world which increasingly tries to tear them down.
“In a world where anyone can reach you at any time, and say whatever they want through a computer screen, ‘NO!’ Is a rebellion against the criticism and internet trolling, a social commentary on a world of chaotic political narratives, dishonest public figures and the ongoing flow of conflicting public opinions,” notes Ajudha. “The track is about owning who you are, being unapologetically yourself, and saying NO! to other people’s expectations of you. I wrote ‘NO!’ with Jungle on our first time meeting, our energies just clicked and we created the perfect rebellious and urgent record that speaks to how I feel in this moment.”
Her debut album The Power In Us solidified Poppy’s ethos, immersed in a newfound sense of clarity and purpose and underpinned by her powerful and distinctive vocals. Key tracks include ‘Demons’ which addresses mental health, and ‘London’s Burning’ which explores the colonial legacy and the impact and importance of immigration on British Culture. The 12-track album showcases an impressive range of musical collaborators too, including a feature from British Jazz icon Nubya Garcia and production credits from the likes of Wyn Bennett (Janelle Monae, Goldlink, Haim) Karma Kid (Dua Lipa, Arlo Parks, Shygirl), Wesley Singerman (Anderson .Paak, Kendrick lamar, Pink Sweat$), Joel Compass (FKA Twigs, Jorja Smith), Grammy nominated Itai Shapira and Taylor Dexter (Joji, Ray Blk).
