On The Road Again: Lionfight
Lionfight is a nu metal/rock quartet based out of Chicago, Illinois formed in January 2013 by singer Nick Astacio, guitarist Akash Hans, and bassist Bryan Patrick Cole, later adding Pete Dornowski on drums. They began writing music and shortly after started playing shows around the greater Chicago area. With an ever swelling fanbase driven by their intense and haunting live shows, Lionfight began booking bigger shows such as the Bad Blood tour with Blood on the Dance Floor and a slot on the South by so What?! Fall Edition Festival.
The band recorded their self-titled EP with Marc McClusky (Chiodos, letlive, Hit the Lights) and released it on February 4, just in time to embark on their biggest tour to date, when they open for Breathe Carolina on the We Are Savages tour in February (dates below). With a dark and heavy feel that can be attributed to such influences as Tool, Messugah, Slipknot and letlive, Lionfight makes each song their own.
Ghettoblaster caught up with the band to discuss their impending trip. This is what they said.
What kind of vehicle are you travelling in, and what are you doing to outfit it for maximum comfort?
We rock a 2007 Chrysler Town & Country Mini-van. For maximum comfort we have installed a home-made wooden bunk bed in the back of the van. It really does wonders on the road, and three people can rest at a time. It has yet to break and kill one of our members.
What is the planned playlist for your travels?
Since we don’t have an AUX input, we have to resort to the radio, over played CDs, and computer speakers hooked up to our phones.
Which of the cities that you’ll be visiting are you most excited about and why?
We are really stoked to play Colorado and California for the natural herbs and good times!
Which of your destinations are you most anxious about?
We’ve always wanted to play the Hard Rock Live in Las Vegas and finally get the chance to this February. Some of our favorite bands have played that stage and we are so curious to see how our performance will go.
What are the top three essential, must-have items that you take on the road with you?
Our phones (obviously), instruments, and positive vibes.
What will you miss most about home while you are away?
Our animals, beds, home cooked meals, and family/friends.
Do you keep a diary during your travels? If so, is it public? Can we share it?
Call it a new-age diary if you will. We love to make VLOGS and funny videos of our adventures for our fans to enjoy.
What is the crazy thing you’ve seen on the road during this or other tours?
Unfortunately we’ve seen a handful of intense car wrecks… from semi-trucks flipped over to cars on fire. On a lighter note, we recently visited Walter Whites’ (Breaking Bad) home that was used in the show. That was awesome for us to see.
