Lila Drew has enlisted OVO Sound duo Majid Jordan for a remix pack of her single “2023.”
“I’m so pumped about these 2023 remixes that Majid Jordan did — they really put a different spin on the song in a way that I could never have imagined when writing it,” says Drew. “I don’t typically gravitate towards electronic sounds in my own writing, and it’s so awesome to hear 2023 taken in that direction. Each remix is quite different, but they’re both 2023 reimagined by a duo I’ve been listening to for so long. Majid Jordan felt like the right fit because they understand the intersection of pop and dance music so intricately and deeply – they understood the song and its sarcasm and humor and were able to take the melodies in a totally different direction. It’s something I’d want to dance to and I know others will too.”
Lila Drew is an emerging singer/songwriter who brings a radiant clarity to the more shadowy aspects of coming-of-age: the self-doubt and insecurity, misplaced longing and paralyzing anxiety. A self-described “pop cynic who makes pop music,” the 21-year-old artist transforms all that unease into high-impact pop songs, tapping into the refined musicality she’s honed since writing and producing her own material from the age of 10. With its elegant balance of introspection with poetic observation (an element the Yale University student also applies to her work in creative nonfiction), Drew’s left-field pop songs capture the most liminal moments in songs with a strangely timeless power.
Drew recently wrapped a European tour that included a sold-out headline show at the Folklore in Hoxton, London and dates supporting Oh Wonder.
