The Montana-based King Ropes, made up of guitarist/vocalist/noise maker Dave Hollier, bassist/synth/piano player Ben Roth, drummer/percussionist/vibist Jeff Jensen, and occasional cellist Sam Hollier, could be classified as several things; a psychedelic Americana band, or maybe an indie desert rock outfit? You could also refer to it as a ramshackle psychedelic Americana noise pop. But like Montana, this music is full of contradictions, open spaces, and jagged edges, breathtaking beauty tempered by a harsh underbelly.
The band has a few cataclysmic influences that are too many to note and honestly, the variety of sounds never equals the group’s final output. Off the heels of its recently released album Super Natural, King Ropes has just released its new laconic “Radio Jane,” off the band’s forthcoming Idaho.
