Huntly makes you want to slide your hips from side to side. It’s part of the Melbourne, Australia trio’s musical aesthetic here. On the fourth single they’ve delivered today, “Giving Circle” confounds by opening with dreamy harmonies before the rhythm takes a different direction.
Led by Elspeth’s sultry voice, “Giving Circle” journeys deep into pop/dance culture, aligning itself with a great songwriting structure that moves fluidly through dreamy instrumentation. Of the song Elspeth explains, “Giving Circle is a pop tragedy, combining rawness and intimacy with movement and energy. It’s about dread, loneliness, and how we shift and adjust to our social landscapes after the end of a relationship.”
The song is off the group’s new album Low Grade Buzz, to be released on Barely Dressed Records, March 15.
