Gruff Rhys is pleased to announce a new two-track single out today on Rough Trade Records, called “People are Pissed”. The tracks are available digitally and a special limited edition cassette designed by regular collaborator Mark James is available for pre-order here.
Gruff says: “The lyrics were inspired by the widespread anger I – and many other people felt towards the incompetence and arrogance of the Johnson regime during the lockdowns – not that I feel any different now. I mean the words go off on one like most of my songs, but that was the seed of the idea.”
This single follows Gruff’s Top 10 chart success in the UK on his most recent album, Seeking New Gods. The two tracks featured on the “People Are Pissed” single are both over 8 minutes long and represent another fascinating, brilliant page in the artist’s songbook. Gruff is set to play shows across Spain and France this month before returning to his hometown of Cardiff as part of the BBC 6 Music Festival on a bill that also features Cat Power and Father John Misty on April 3. In addition, the BBC’s 6music has released a set of specially-curated radio shows and sessions by Gruff – you can listen to the BBC Artist Collection for Gruff here.
