Eluvium releases vinyl box via Temporary Residence

Eluvium’s Life Through Bombardment Vol. 2, a vinyl box set that collects every Eluvium recording made since the release of the first Life Through Bombardment set back in 2009 is out now on Temporary Residence. Pitchfork has premiered the official video for Life Through Bombardment Vol 2. The video which was directed and filmed by Jeremy deVine, Eric Macey and Jacob Kelso is an HD short film displaying the laborious handmade process of manufacturing Eluvium’s box set.
Packaged similarly to the first set — a library-style clothbound hardcover book with seven distinct sleeves featuring new original artwork by longtime collaborator Jeannie Lynn Paske — this is the first time these recordings have been released on vinyl. This awe-striking, super-deluxe set includes the albums Similes, Static Nocturne, and Nightmare Ending, as well as the b-sides, remixes, and bonus tracks that accompanied them. Also included is Wisdom For Debris, the rare album that accompanied Paske’s art book of the same name, and finally Curious Things, a full-length bonus album of rare and previously unreleased material recorded from 2009-2015.
As with the first (long out-of-print) volume, Life Through Bombardment Vol. 2 is strictly limited to 1,000 copies. Each is hand-assembled and hand-numbered, and includes a removable library card signed by the artists.
Matthew Cooper (Eluvium) says: “It was kind of a dream to be able to create the first box set several years ago, and as the years have passed the first set has come to stand as an important totem for a specific time that I care for dearly.  It seemed only appropriate and timely to create its companion piece.”
Cooper adds, “This time I wanted to go a little further – include some rare material, as well as some tracks that no one had heard before – to give it a bit more character.  Quite a lot of people have asked for Nightmare Ending on vinyl, or Static Nocturne, or Similes, etc…so it’s nice to have them all released on vinyl for the first time. It feels like it all came together at the right moment. I asked Jeannie Lynn Paske (Obsolete World) if she was willing and interested to again create all new art work for this new set, (she made all of the art for the first box and has been a long time muse/collaborator/inspiration for all things Eluvium – not to mention my life in general). She agreed to be a part of it, and once again she knocked it out of the park. I love the first set very much, but this one is really a whole new level for me.”
Jeannie Lynn Paske (Obsolete World) adds: “To me, the box set’s minimal charcoal and ink artwork has a feeling of spectral mystery.  I was aiming for the sense one feels when witnessing something larger than themselves; feelings that accompany thoughts on life, death and the universe; stories shared around campfires as hushed otherworldly visions, or shimmering images bordering on illumination walking out into a strange and magical world for the very first time.”
Jeremy deVine (package designer, Temporary Residence founder) concludes: “For me, Eluvium’s music has always been suited for these kinds of library-style compendiums. His albums are always stand-alone statements that differ from one another in unique and curious ways. When collected together as a set, they become an even more compelling story of immeasurable depth; the individual albums become chapters in a book that I hope never ends. For this reason, we decided to package the box sets like volumes of books. The set consists of 7 individually leafed jackets bound together in a thick, clothbound book cover with a foil-stamped, embossed spine. We also included a rather large, full-color foldout poster (because why not)! Each package was printed and assembled by hand in Oregon, California, and New York by a team of over 3 dozen tireless people dedicated to their craft. The amount of time, effort, and cost that goes into a project like this can be back-breaking. But just like the first time – just like always – the finished product makes it all worth it.”
