Beloved New York indie label Double Double Whammy is turning 10 this year. To celebrate they’re announcing 10 Years of Double Double Whammy, a compilation featuring DDW artists covering fellow label mates, available for pre-order on limited edition vinyl now and out November 19th.
Double Double Whammy have shared a taste of the compilation today, releasing Frankie Cosmos covering Lomelda’s “Slide,” and Lomelda covering Frankie Cosmos’ “Sad 2.”
“I’m a huge fan of Lomelda. Hannah’s singing is inimitable, but she creates melodies that I always want to sing. I chose to cover ‘Slide’ because it’s my favorite kind of song: short in length, while covering a lot of emotional ground,” says Frankie Cosmos’ Greta Kline.
Lomelda’s Hannah Read says “I am so thankful for Frankie Cosmos songs. Greta writes melodies that I cant help but sing along to, and then all of a sudden I’ve got these words in my mouth I’m so happy are there without me havin to think of them. ‘Sad2’ is a song about a dog and dating and dying. It is a perfect (country) song. We had loads of fun drawling it out in our lom way.”
The compilation also features Hovvdy, Mirah, Great Grandpa, Told Slant feat. Florist, Long Beard, The Glow and more.
Double Double Whammy (DDW) was born and built on scrappy DIY attitudes, artist-friendly deals, and a deep passion for emotive music. From hand-dubbing cassettes in a college dorm room, to shipping LPs from a cramped partitioned space in the back of Brooklyn’s Silent Barn, to several iterations of home offices, and finally into a humble office in industrial Brooklyn, DDW has shown the staying power and loyal support for a label whose organic growth and moderate success is deeply indebted to a business model that puts the artist first.
