Dave Guy has dropped “Still Standing,” the latest single from his debut album, Ruby, out on September 20th via Big Crown Records. He has also announced his record release on September 26th at Brooklyn’s The Sultan Room that will feature a performance and DJ sets from Stretch Armstrong, El Michels Affair and Danny Akalepse — tickets are available HERE. The new track follows previous singles “7th Heaven” — featuring backing vocals by Clairo’s Claire Cottrill and whom Guy recently backed during her performance on The Tonight Show, “Pink Ring,” “I’ll Follow You,” and more. Throughout the album, Guy explores New York Jazz and pushes the boundaries of the genre by incorporating shades of hip hop and soul, making it both unique and modern.
“Still Standing” showcases the more in-your-face side of Ruby, with a stomping four on the floor tune. The syncopated rhythms of the percussion sway around the steady march of the backbeat while Dave plays everything from soft and spacious to powerful and punchy, picking where to put his notes with the panache of a master.
Ruby is a record that mixes Dave Guy’s musical influences with the energies of the city that raised him. It also features stunning cover art by renowned NYC-based multidisciplinary artist Derrick Adams. Pre-save / pre-order Ruby here: https://bigcrownrecords.com/store/ruby.
