Cameron Forbes just released his new single “Send Nudes” which winks at dating app culture and endless “send nudes” messages that come through. The song is a celebration and looks at body positivity and sexuality in a breezy, playful way. For those endlessly swiping on dating apps, strutting down a crowded street or checking yourself out in a mirror, this is your anthem. “Send Nudes” is the first release from his upcoming project, due later this year via things we like / AWAL.
“‘Send Nudes’ is about celebrating your own skin. No filter. No judgment. No matter what shape, size, or color you are,” notes Cam. “In some ways it’s a reminder to myself to own my sexy. If you wanna show off, there ain’t nothing wrong with that, as long as you love yourself in the process. And if you choose to share that part of yourself with someone, do it with someone you trust.” He adds that he “started singing some of the messages I would get on dating apps and turned them into lyrics, and it all unfolded from there.”
Most recently, Cam released his gorgeous and powerful single and video for “If I Was White,” which premiered via BET Soul and BET Jams. Released in advance of Juneteenth, the song was written from a place of frustration, anger and the deep sadness for his Black and Brown sisters and brothers whose lives were taken because of police brutality and systemic policies that have worn down communities of color over hundreds of years. Forbes, his collaborators and label will be donating a portion of all proceeds from the song to Mother’s Against Police Brutality and Campaign Zero.
Cameron Forbes spent his childhood outside Chicago where his yearning for self-identity drove him to turn to music and journaling as a source of healing after being bullied. He continued navigating music while studying at the University of Michigan, where he met Grammy-nominated producer Maejor (Justin Bieber, Trey Songz) who exposed him to the art of songwriting. Shortly after, he forged a relationship with fellow Chicagoan d.a. got that dope (Eminem, Chris Brown, Tyga). When he moved to Los Angeles, Forbes secured his first songwriting placement and vocal feature on “Black Crowns” from Tyga’s 2012 major-label debut Careless World. From there, Forbes would write for dozens of artists but credits his hand in Tyga’s 6x Platinum 2018 comeback single “Taste” as a major milestone. The song features an infectious vocal hook that was Forbes’ own pitched down voice and would help reshape the sound of modern radio.
