Bodega Share “N.A.S.S.”

After the band’s less than lackluster Our Brand Could Be Yr Life earlier this year, there might be redemption once again as the NYC’s cultural commentators return today with “N.A.S.S.”, the latest single from their upcoming digital deluxe edition Brand On The Run, due out  November 1. Not quite certain why the band is rehashing it but it’s the expanded edition of Bodega’s Our Brand Could Be Yr Life, and features seven tracks, four previously unreleased, including “Cry When Yr Young,” a cover from the defunct New York band Milk Dick, Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio played regularly in their early days as Bodega Bay. And three limited edition b-sides, including “N.A.S.S.” along with “Adaptation of the Truth about Marie.”

Bodega will head back out on the road, touring across Europe and the UK September 19 – October 24, before hitting the U.S. West Coast, November 1-8. With a celebratory return home to Brooklyn, November 14 @ Brooklyn Made [all dates below].

Discussing the track, Hozie notes, “’N.A.S.S.’ or ‘New Age Spineless Sophists’ is a diss track against the myriad superficial rock and pop groups who employ subversive signifiers yet are wholly without a living aesthetic, intellectual, or emotional point of view (ie. advertisers instead of artists). This song dates way back to 2013 when my musical compatriots and I sometimes rehearsed in the now-defunct Brooklyn rehearsal space ‘The Sweat Shop’ and had gigs at a little bar in East Williamsburg called Legion —> Thus when I speak-sing ‘Legion from the Sweat Shop’ I was referring to my weekly routine as a wannabe Brooklyn boho as much as overpriced ‘alt’ fashion made in real sweatshops.”
