Benny Sings Shares News Of New Album, Single “Here It Comes”

Benny Sings’ new album Music will be released April 9 on Stones Throw Records. The 10-song project features collaborations from across genres including Mac DeMarco, Emily King, KYLE, Tom Misch, and Cautious Clay.  Benny has unveiled a new song, “Here It Comes.”

Benny says: “The lyrics are about me as a young boy, living on the streets in Dordrecht [a city in the Netherlands] with my skate crew, and feeling life presenting itself, and feeling excited about it. A time full of hope and bravado. My dad used to call us ‘Little Giants.’”

In January, Benny released “Nobody’s Fault” featuring Tom Misch on guitar. Clash described the track as a “deluxe, caramel-soft jammer [that] carries an exceptionally potent sense of control” and the single has been played across BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music.

Music is packed with delightful surprises leaping out at every turn. On the joyous “Miracles,” Benny is joined by Emily King, Kelsey Gonzales of Free Nationals and Chance the Rapper collaborator Peter CottonTale’s gospel choir. “Run Right Back” opens with a saxophone solo from Cautious Clay. Rapper KYLE features on “Kids,” and Benny mans the ship himself on “Lost Again,” “Break Away” and “Here It Comes.”

Benny was busy in 2020 as he teased Music. This fall he unveiled “Rolled Up” featuring Mac DeMarco. The title track, “Music,” was released early last year and Benny then performed it on a rare return appearance to NPR’s Tiny Desk, at a (Home) Concert. He also unveiled “Sunny Afternoon,” written with Grammy Award-winning songwriter, PJ Morton.

Few musicians can claim to count Rex Orange County, (Benny co-wrote and is featured on the platinum single, “Loving Is Easy”) Goldlink, Cornelius, Mayer Hawthorne, John Mayer, Rita Ora, Anderson .Paak and Allen Stone as collaborators and/or fans, but the attraction is easy to understand. Benny’s songs are sophisticated and easy to fall in love with, earworming melodies and sticky choruses the result of years of craft that have made him the ultimate songwriter’s songwriter, with a formidable solo career. Music follows the release of Benny’s 2019 Stones Throw debut, City Pop, which has over 15 million streams and received support from NPR Music, KCRW, the BBC, COLORS and more.
