Album Premiere | Daphne Blue Underworld, ‘Memory Palace’

Boston-based alt-pop mad scientist Daphne Blue Underworld (aka. Loren Ipsum) releases Memory Palace (Sisters Weird) on April 25.

Flipping stylistic channels between the guitar-dominated heyday of MTV’s 120 Minutes and the warm synthesized landscapes of PBS’s NovaMemory Palace explores themes of personal authenticity, courage in the face of change, and the tenuous escapism of a complex inner life.

Memory Palace is my latest mid-fi offering. I was hoping to create a collection of songs that feel like aural daydreams bathed in a nostalgic VHS glow via a combination of blissed-out guitar pop and warm synth landscapes,” Ipsum says.

“For me, Memory Palace explores themes of personal authenticity, courage in the face of change, and the tenuous escapism of a complex inner life. I take an organic approach to writing music, and I strive to foster a soft-focused, textured aesthetic that underlines my work ethic as an artist.”
