While genres are constantly being discovered and revived by new generations, the heyday of Lookout! Records-era pop punk has aged out of its teen years. Many bands have sold their vans and naturally dispersed, with jobs and families taking lives in different directions, but the spirit of stickers, laminated flyers and angst doesn’t die easily.
A great example of this is new band, Singing Lungs – uniting a few veteran dudes from the Michigan DIY scene, who have since gone on to become a zookeeper, board game designer, and touring musician. Pop punk is like their high school reunion: they may all be grown up and doing different things, but get them in the same room with a case of cheap beer and it’s like no time has passed at all. The responsibilities and priorities of 30-something existence has changed the lyrics, but all of the other pillars of pop punk are well represented in these 10 tracks.
Ghettoblaster is excited to share Singing Lungs’s debut album, Groan a week ahead of its release on September 28th and their album release show on September 29th at The Loft in Lansing, Michigan with Mustard Plug, Laura Stevenson, and Grey Matter.
