Cars & Trains is the electronic-folk project of Portland, Oregon-based experimental artist Tom Filepp. His new album, Fictions, finds Filepp delivering a mosaic of sounds, which when pieced together color the political and personal; stories of creation and destruction, nature and decay and laments for a post-truth world.
It is at once sonically inspired by influences as broad reaching as Miles Davis and Brian Eno, and his lyrics sometimes spin into the same orbits occupied by the dystopian visions conjured by David Bowie and author Jorge Luis Borges. Fictions sees release via New Haven-based hip-hop label Fake Four Inc. (Ceschi, Astronautalis).
Today, Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of streaming Filepp’s anamorphic creation. He had this to say about it:
“Fictions is multiple things for me — a celebration of the minute, beautiful things in life, the larger whole we share and sit in, and an indictment of the struggles we face every day that put those things in jeopardy.
