Peppy Pep Pepper, the musical project of incognito artist Violet Candide, is set to release her sophomore LP, Granny Chic, via Modern Tapes, tomorrow. Started in Candide’s flat in Vienna, Austria, Peppy Pep Pepper released Distortion on the Vienna-based label Transformer Music before appearing on the German label Cold Transmission Music’s Zeitgeist v.9 compilation. Granny Chic was recorded by Candide at her home in Vienna and mastered by Patrick from Modern Tapes. Preorder, here.
Preferring anonymity to performing live, Peppy Pep Pepper can be considered a part of the European DIY synth/wave scene, as it offers cold and beautiful synth and drum machine constructions layered with minimalist vocals in the style of bands like The Normal, ADULT. or Void Vision.
Candide had this to say about the album:
“The concept of album title Granny Chic is a nod to the fact that many people who connect with the sounds of ’80s music, be it pop or underground, are quite possibly grandparents at this point.”
Though the album mainly addresses, in abstract terms, the passing of time, Violet encourages her audience to add their own personal meaning when listening to the dreamy electro-soundscapes of Granny Chic.
Today, Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of sharing an early listen to the album.
