Crocodiles returns with its Greetings From Hell album today courtesy of Invisible Hits and Wild Honey Records. Here listeners will find a group whose artistic vision is sharp, and whose garage- and punk-influenced rock and roll chops are as agile as ever, even after nearly two decades of creating together.
In the lyrics is an aged, focused maturity that gives this album its distinct flavor. Perhaps it is a yearning for lost youth or maybe it’s a sense of longing for times passed, but for those listeners reaching middle age, the road behind isn’t always pretty. But, in many ways, there are still past moments that one would choose to relive over and over in a heartbeat, despite lasting regrets, shame, or shoulda/couldas.
“’In Love With A Ghost’ was written in a strange and rare way,” Charles Rowell recalls. “It was the first day in my new apartment. Just me and my guitar in an empty space, in a building that is said to be haunted. The entire song came to me in an afternoon. I was pulling inspiration from difficult feelings towards aging and past relationships. I think we’re all in love with a ghost in one way or another.”
Before you grab that box of tissues, take a minute to check out the video for “In Love With A Ghost,” a light-hearted take the heavy subject matter. It was directed by Sam Macon and edited by Eric Arsnow, and stars Kristine Nevrose.
