Tired of Fighting Honor Loved One With “Just For Me”

When a loved one or family member is diagnosed with a terminal illness, one’s whole worldview changes. With “Just For Me,” Tired of Fighting lead singer and guitarist, Nic Wood, shares a tribute and celebration of the life of his beloved grandmother, Marjorie.

The double-meaning behind the song’s title is equal parts heartbreaking and loving. Wood and company offer up a wonderfully touching and beautiful tribute on “Just For Me.” Towing the line between sadness and joy, “Just For Me” is a touching tribute and a declaration of love to help navigate through dark times.

“There are certain moments that you can never truly be prepared for. Finding out that your grandmother has terminal cancer is one of them,” Wood says. ” One of the most surreal moments of my life was going into her room one day, there was a notice board set up with the words ‘just for me’ on it that you were supposed to fill up with photos and things that might jog memories.

“Her brain tumor had become more aggressive and for some reason the only words she could say were ‘just for me,’ but she was saying them in different pacings, and sometimes with a shallow breath. It was terrifying and heartbreaking, but it was almost like I could tell she was saying that she loved us and that it was going to be okay. We needed to hear that just as much as she did in that moment.

“She was a wonderful person who loved music, and was just a very kind-hearted soul, but also came out with some funny things. She also loved hearing about my sister’s job in science and her travels, although she’d always be concerned about her safety even though my sister is more than capable of looking after herself. She really loved hearing about what I was doing with the band. And she would have loved to hear we were releasing an album. I’m glad I get to release this song for her. Thank you Marjorie. Rest in peace”

Tired of Fighting are an explosive emo punk band from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England with a unique and captivating sound. Inspired by early ’00s emo such as Motion City Soundtrack and Taking Back Sunday, Tired of Fighting blend the energy of Paramore with the storytelling of The Gaslight Anthem.

Formed in 2019, Tired of Fighting were born when Nic Wood (vocals and guitar), who was well known in the local area for his huge, booming vocal delivery, was hounded by George Sharpe (bass) to form a band and put some “oomph” behind the voice rather than just his signature acoustic guitar. A drummer was brought in and Tired of Fighting was formed.

The band went on to establish themselves as one of the most popular unsigned bands in the northeast of England, supporting national touring bands such as Mallory Knox along the way.

When drummer Kev Nolan came on board, the band were soon ready to take their signature sound further afield, and with the help of management from Metathetic Music, were planning shows across the UK. The band went on to tour the UK and release several singles which showcased their energy and passion.
