Baltimore hip-hop collective GAWDS have dropped visuals for their newest single “Oh No.” Though a braggadocious, lyrical attack replete with cuts, the track and visual has an introspective element. Emcees Pinpoint, L3, and Regulus are literally split in two, with their artist persona attacking their civilian identities. As Regulus explains, “It reflects our normal life/work life selves and our rapper selves frustrated at how both interfere with our daily routines. A metaphor for the balance we struggle with daily.”
“Oh No” is featured on GAWD’s new LP, The Care Package. Of the album, Regulus reveals “This album displays a lot more of L3’s (singer/emcee) R&B and Soul sensibilities as opposed to our usual classic boom-bap approach. The result is our most diverse, introspective and personal release.”
Rounded out by DJ Rocky Styles the album touches a variety of topics from a first-hand perspective including fatherhood, divorce and former friends. Album guests include Baltimore Brethren including Clif Love, Briana La Barz, Pete The Dark Truth, Richard Cranium and Kardo The Don. It also welcomes two San Antonio, Texas artists Spy MC and Blazy Green that the group built with last summer while on tour. As Regulus recalls “The track ‘Change Up’ feat Spy MC was written and recorded right after we got off the plane. The recording session was from 1am-4am.”
