I’ve never seen you before in my life, but you look to me like a slacker!” An iconic line from Back To the Future comes to mind when I think of the Brooklyn band Ringing, the project of bandleader Colton Walker, and I welcome it. The group is excited to announce its debut album, another cycle in the cosmic wash (Julia’s War Recordings/Signal/Noise Records), available March 20, 2026. Heralding the announcement is “incandescent,” which premieres today with an official visualizer. The song treks through sludgy guitars, capturing the discomfort of self-realization.
“This song is about admitting that you aren’t happy with the way you’re living your life,” Colton explains. “It’s not an easy thing to confront, but it’s a necessary first step.”
While Ringing may have started out as a solo project back in 2020, it developed into a trio that allows the music to drift off wherever the melody allows. Its “incandescent,” filled with coasting instruments, lazy vocals, and stop/start dynamics, it’s clear Ringing walks its own path in 2026. Considering the group is known for its monumental sound and visceral lyricism, the new album follows the group’s 2023 EP Is It Light Out Where You Are?
