Video Premiere: Black Viiolet, “Don’t Leave Me (On The Dancefloor)”

Black Viiolet is the alter-ego of Nicole Laurenne, lead singer and founder of Alternative Tentacles all-girl garagepunk band The Darts (US). Nicole steps away from her Farfisa-organ-flinging, crowd surfing rock persona into a whole new world with Black Viiolet – a sultry, neo-soul, vintage-jazz-inspired, triphop-tinged, spy-movie experience, invoking candlelit jazz clubs and back-alley speakeasies.

Today, Black Viiolet has shared the video for the single “Don’t Leave Me (On The Dancefloor).” The audio recording, from the debut LP After You (2025 Adrenalin Fix Music), features Digable Planets drummer Conrad Real along with some of Seattle’s best jazz musicians and production by Kevin Gardner. The video follows the European touring lineup of Black Viiolet as they dance their way around the beautiful RockSea venue in France (including a cameo by owner Olivier Davy) – plus a few shots of Nicole under the neon at BusyBody Bar in Tacoma, WA. The bi-continental music video was edited by Matt Eskew.

Laurenne said of the track, “’Don’t Leave Me (On The Dancefloor)’ might be the first taste of a new genre: disco-lounge! It’s a chill groove that makes you want to dust off those old disco moves, while crooning about that saddest of all moments – a breakup right there on the dancefloor.”

Created while Nicole toured around the USA and Europe, Black Viiolet played its first live shows in 2024, in support of the debut EP, Kill Me Now (2024 Adrenalin Fix Music). Tours in Europe and the USA soon followed. Seattle’s premiere jazz radio station featured Black Viiolet on its show “The New Cool” and put the EP into rotation, legendary keyboard company Korg is now sponsoring Nicole on two continents, and press is rolling in throughout the US, UK, and Europe.
