Brooklyn-based Sub*T, Grace Bennett and Jade Alcantara, shared the video for the single “Unearthly.” The track is off the band’s EP Spring Skin EP (If This Then Records), set for release on June 21, 2024. Formed in 2019, the band conjure classic 90’s female-driven rock, creating fuzzy songs in the same vein as Veruca Salt, Garbage, and Hole. After collaborating with Bully’s Alicia Bognanno in Nashville to produce & record their 2021 debut EP, So Green, Sub*T has been playing shows all over New York, as well as supporting sold-out shows for acts like The Linda Lindas and Hinds.
Their forthcoming sophomore EP was produced & recorded by Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma). The songs were recorded at Studio G in Brooklyn, strengthened by Aron’s vision and expertise in creating and layering instruments. Meeting together for the second time, Sub*T and Aron were able to reach the sound they envisioned for this next chapter in their journey. Jade & Grace reflect on their upcoming music: “We are in bloom, and our Spring Skin EP is a testament to our growth. Our new collection of songs examines lust and desire, values the courage in moving on, wonders about loneliness, and celebrates evolving into different versions of yourself for the better. Just a little sentimental.” Standout track “Unearthly” is, according to the band, “a little moodier than the other music we’ve put out, but we love the driving force of the instruments underneath the lyrics which is always our goal when writing. It feels like a dark fairytale journey, and intentionally leaning into an image like that was new for us when writing this song.” Spring Skin will be released in 2024 via women-owned independent label If This Then Records.
“Unearthly” is a song that’s been in our arsenal for a while. We chose this as the first single off the EP because the taste of it is a little moodier than the other music we’ve put out, but we love the driving force of the instruments underneath the lyrics which is always our goal when writing. It feels like a dark fairytale journey, and intentionally leaning into an image like that was new for us when writing this song. – Sub*T
