Tim Heidecker shares the new video for “Backwards,” a track off of Fear of Death (Spacebomb Records), his latest album that was released back in September. “Backwards” features backing vocals from Weyes Blood’s Natalie Mering and “uses bucolic imagery to mourn a future that now promises apocalypse. It’s the standard Paul Simon has yet to write about mass extinction” (Washington Post). Its video offers a more warm-hearted, untroubled outlook, culling together Super 8 clips from Heidecker family movies. Tim, his sister Erika, and assorted extended family all appear throughout.
“As the lockdown began, I suddenly realized we may not have an opportunity to make any music videos for Fear of Death,” says Heidecker. “I had been feeling nostalgic and was going through some old Super 8 films that I had transferred and quickly realized the amber, 70s vibe of my childhood fit perfectly with ‘Backwards.’ It all came together quickly and eventually we figured out a way to actually shoot some videos, so this got put on the back burner but I’m really pleased with how well it vibes with the song. Thanks for shooting all this great footage dad!”
