Guatemala-born, New York City-based rising producer Gromo continues to expand his future-bound sound today with the 808-heavy, melodic rap breakup anthem “Wake Up” ft. Hush. The song is built on sparse, bass-rattling trap drums and Hush’s melancholic lyrics.
Gromo and Hush have joined forces a number of times throughout the years, digging deep into trap beats, a shared love for hip-hop and exploring a late club sound all throughout. Revisit previous collaborations “Don’t Care,” “Nuke” and “Find Me (Marco Polo).”
“I initially started this instrumental back in 2018 with a totally different vibe,” says Gromo. “I tried to create a low key and atmospheric background for Hush to add his lush vocals on it. Come January 2019 it went through its first transition, swapping out the drums and trying to make it more pop friendly. Over a year later I revisited the track..and I knew I had to make it more amped. I changed the drums once again and eliminated some of the old elements that were taking up room in the mix. The final product is now finally 100% Gromo approved.”
“Wake Up” ft. Hush follows Gromo’s “Slowly” (Dante Damage Remix), a newly energized take on the Latin-meets-Indian pop song that further amplifies the reggaeton-inspired hook – one PopMatters hailed “undeniable.”
On November 3rd, Gromo will perform alongside Joywave, 3OH3!, Citizen Cope, Young Buck and many more at the #iVoted webcast concert, an event founded by longtime music industry entrepreneur Emily White dedicated to increasing voter turnout. Stay tuned for more to come from Gromo.
