According to the Chicago band itself, they walk a fine line between creating its off-kilter pop music and weirdness. But it’s all juxtaposed well together in the end simply because, well, it’s something that helps define Big Syn and the sound it’s been able to master throughout the past few years.
2017 saw the release of the group’s album It’s Awake (Pale Sun Records), an album that mixed a variety of sonically challenging sounds. Three years later, Big Syn is clamoring at the bit again with hints of a new E.P. that’s set to release later in June. In the meantime though, the group shares the first single off the release, “Subscriptions.” It’s a heady pseudo-psychedelia that’s as expansive as the Mojave desert.
Of the band’s new single, they offer up:
“Big Syn is sexy prog-rock for a deep state of mind, pop music with all its wires crossed. Amphetaminic synths, hypnotic grooves and lush vocals twist your heartstrings into a delirium of emotional genre-smashing. Your brainwaves and your booty can groove to its beat. Sometimes it smells good, but it always tastes great. Big Syn is a rockin’ erotic confession. Psychedelic make-out songs for the best of times and the end of time”
