Brooklyn-based artist Kat Lee is getting ready to release a new single, “Fear of Flying,” from her forthcoming debut solo EP, Catch and Release, and Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of premiering it (below).

Normally found fronting the rock band Tiny Gun, on the EP, Lee conversely performs a batch of songs in their stripped-down and raw forms, adding to the embedded intimacy of their composition. 

Lee says, “I love this EP a lot. It is a product of the true DIY spirit. Lots of blood sweat and tears were put into the making of this by people I am lucky enough to call my friends and creative partners. Tiny Gun is my baby and it is always a raw and emotional experience, but because I think there is something really important about being truly and openly vulnerable, I made this.”

About “Fear of Flying” Lee adds, “‘Fear of Flying’ is a song about letting go of something you want very badly. As the final track off of my EP, it is the releasing of the weight of the optimistic chase for the idea happiness and the idea of the person you think you should strive to be. It is the moment during which you allow yourself to give up, and to finally allow yourself the space to feel sadness and loneliness. I wrote this song when I was desperately trying to lift my depression in all of the wrong ways, because I was afraid I’d be unable to come out of the depths if I let myself feel it.”
