Laurel Halo
Quarantine
By now you might have been tipped off to Laurel Halo, possibly by some fan boy or girl that is geeking out on the fact that there is an attractive woman who’s not only making some of the damn finest music in that “chill-wave” “Post-Pop” or whatever the fuck is going on with those genre names, but be quick to shut that person up.  We’re seeing the fist flexing of an incredible talent on Quarantine, so don’t go gassing her head up on music blogs and ruin it for the rest of us.   Not that she would let the praise go to her head I presume.  Only a handful of releases in and she’s already a darling of many a music critic.  Yeah, I know, me too.  Slotted nicely between Hype Williams and Jimmy Edgar on Hyperdub, Laurel has a particularly potent product.  All the woozy synth that you’d want from a Brooklyn artist these days, but with enough bottom end that you can tell she’s got her production skills where she needs to have them to go toe-to-toe with today’s experimental electronic musicians riding the crest of praise and acclaim.  Let’s hope that this is sign of more incredible material to come out as Laurel Halo and as her King Felix alias.  (Hyperdub) Noah Andrews
