Brooklyn quartet Stern has teamed with Decibel Magazine to reveal the title track off new album Bone Turquoise.
In the words of Decibel’s Dan Lake, “The strange, aqueous nature of the music that Stern offers on its new record becomes a lot less unexpected when you realize that the band includes Toby Driver the scary genius behind Maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot… The album is full of pop-like tunes, all hip-checked sideways and left to melt in the summer sun.”

The album will be released August 7 on New Atlantis Records.
Stern is the namesake of vocalist Chuck Stern, whose former band Time of Orchids released music on John Zorn’s Tzadik label. Flanked by Toby Driver, Kayo Dot drummer Keith Byrnes, and longtime Kayo Dot collaborator Tim Byrnes, Stern makes “pop” music in line with certain works of Mike Patton, Shudder to Think, and film composers like Ennio Morricone. Songs twist and turn, teetering on the line between serenity and terror.
