GRAMMY award nominated filmmaker Danny Clinch is asking fans to help put together an in-depth documentary on Blind Melon’s late lead singer Shannon Hoon by donating to a Kickstarter campaign that ends next Tuesday May 5 http://kck.st/1yTBXBW
The film will be uniquely told through the eyes of Shannon, who is given a ‘co-director’ credit in the film post-mortem, as Clinch was given over 200 hours of personal, mainly never before seen footage filmed from Shannon’s own camera during the band’s rise to fame in the early 90s. Rolling Stone and Yahoo caught up with Danny to hear personal stories surrounding the exclusive footage and photos that you can see below.

Shannon’s commitment to documenting his life resulted in an impressive body of work that will allow us to watch the fantasy of fame realized through the eyes of the person it’s happening to. Shannon took a hand-held camcorder everywhere he went and captured the band’s entire journey from being anonymous Los Angeles transplants to 90’s rock icons. Shannon’s footage captures both a cultural era in which MTV and the music video ruled supreme, and the moment right before the Internet, an introduction that would dramatically change the way we consume media.
