Nelsonville Music Festival 2015 makes another lineup announcement

We are just under five weeks away from May 28-31 and the 11th annual Nelsonville Music Festival! They announced the fifth round of Nelsonville Music Festival lineup announcements.
As many of you remember, NMF 2013 was hit with strong thunderstorms and heavy wind.  They temporarily lost power to the whole site and had to use a back-up generator to bring the porch stage back to life. Because of this storm, one of their favorite artist’s set was cut to four songs.  They are extremely happy to announce the return of legendary soul and gospel singer and Grammy award winner Mavis Staples on Friday, May 29. Afro-beat/soul-jazz/funk instrumental masters The Budos Band will also make the trip to Nelsonville on Saturday, May 30.
If that isn’t enough, NMF is excited to partner with O’Betty’s Red Hot to bring back their famous Hot Dog Eating Contest to our intimate Porch Stage!  How many hot dogs can you eat?  Live hot dog eating music will be provided from Athens surf rockers The D-Rays!
Other acts added include Brooklyn’s Howard, a mix folk and electronic music to create textured songs with hypnotic rhythms and airy vocals.  Oklahoma singer-songwriter Samantha Crain an NMF favorite returns to the No-Fi cabin. Parkersburg native Todd Burge will lead a songwriting workshop for kids in our creative kids tent as well as perform a Todd Burge ‘adult’ set in the No-Fi.  Columbus Ohio’s Connections make their first appearance. More Ohio acts finish out this round of announcements, including Chris Biester (Athens), Ryan Jewell (Columbus), Skeletonwitch guitarist Scott Hedrick (Athens), Ethan Bartman (Athens), and Weedghost (Athens/Fairborn and Ghettoblaster Magazine contributors!).
The four bands from the Stuart’s Opera House Afterschool Music Program (AMP) will play this year’s Nelsonville Music Festival, after spending eight months in the Stuart’s afterschool program for Athens County students ages 13-18. Athens own Honey for the Heart and their giant puppets will make another appearance on the grounds of Robbins Crossing and the NMF campground will again see a late night Thursday Square Dance with caller and traveling wizard, T. Claw.
The newest round of additions join a lineup that already includes The Flaming Lips (Friday), Merle Haggard (Sunday), St. Vincent (Saturday), Trampled By Turtles (Thursday), Brandi Carlile (Sunday), Built to Spill (Friday), The Black Lips (Saturday), Lucero (Thursday), and many more. Purchase your weekend passes or single day tickets right now by clicking here.
