Brooklyn band My America is recording its new album, Misses, this month with producer Kevin Bernsten (Full of Hell, Magrudergrind, Old Wounds) at Developing Nations in Baltimore, MD.
My America began life in Delaware in the early ’00s, under the name My America Is Watching Tigers Die. Through that decade, the quartet played hundreds of shows across the country and made a handful of records, most notably 2008’s Stone Age LP, released on Pluto Records (HORSE the Band, Norma Jean).
In late 2008, the band parted with vocalist David Rushman, gradually relocated to Brooklyn and rebranded itself as a power trio with the new name of My America. My America’s self-released Hurry Up and ChillLP solidified the evolved sound: hardcore punk, pounded out in the form of a grimy, Unsane-style stomp.
Minimal and memorable, Hurry Up and Chill’s jams were bottom-heavy anthems that shined live at shows around the city with the likes of Coliseum, KEN mode, and Keelhaul. BrooklynVegan threw big support at the band, proclaiming, “My America’s take on noise rock is absolutely essential for fans of Young Widows…”
Still comprised of founding members Matthew Turner (guitar, vocals), Brian Miller (bass, vocals), and Andy Rapp (drums), My America now prepares to lay down what will be the best document of its noise to date: Misses.
