Third Man Records is getting ready to release previously unreleased 7-inches from a pair of influential Detroit cult acts: RockFire Funk Express and the Underwear Heads.
RockFire Funk Express were an early incarnation of the band that later became pioneering proto-punks Death. The Hackney brothers — David, Dannis and Bobby — never officially released any music under this name, but they recorded a two-song single back in 1973. This will be released on 7-inch vinyl this coming Tuesday (May 28).
As for the Underwear Heads, an announcement from Third Man notes that their six-song Tangmania EP originally existed only as a sleeve without a record, since the vinyl was defective and all copies were thrown out. The recordings, which date back 30-plus years, were eventually tracked down in the form of an early-generation master.
Both 7-inches are available to pre-order from Third Man’s online store.
