Kansas City songwriter and horror-movie aficionado Josh Berwanger’s new album The Star Invaders is set to drop on Halloween. For the out-of-this-world new album, Berwanger, formerly of The Anniversary and The Only Children, enlisted members of Broncho, Limbeck, Flaming Lips, Sam Cohen, and Eva Gardner of Mars Volta, Pink and Tegan and Sara to bring color to the psychedelia-tinged compositions. Additionally, The Star Invaders marks a first for the indie rock veteran; it is his third album with Berwanger and the first time he has ever been a part of three albums in a band.
Today, Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of premiering “The Cage With The Golden Bars,” the album’s epic, space-y closer. Enjoy it below.
Berwanger had this to say about the forthcoming album:
“I was going through a horrible breakup and was extremely depressed. I was on a family vacation in North Carolina at the ocean and one night a UFO appeared. The UFO sat above me and I begged for it to take me. It then began to multiply, and as my heart beat at an extreme rate I’ve never felt before, the UFO disappeared into nothing. I felt rejected by everything and began to write this new album.”
