R&B singer Chrisette Michele took a lot of heat days leading up to Donald Trump’s inauguration. Many were quick to lambaste the artist for accepting to perform for the new President, but she was quick to respond saying she would rather be the “bridge” to bring people together. With her name attached so closely to that of Trump, Spike Lee stated he once considered Michele’s music for his work but that quickly came to a halt following word of her performance. The Roots’ drummer Questlove had even said he would pay the singer  not to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration.  After all was said and done, Chrisette Michele fired back with her own response, in the form of her track, “No Political Genius.” On the track it’s clear how she’s firing back saying, “I am the black song Spike Lee won’t sing/I am the black voice inauguration bells ring.”
